Purposes and Objectives

(1) The purposes of the organisation are

(A) To promote and advance four wheel drive touring as a responsible recreation

(B) To promote vehicle based dispersed bush camping

(C) To encourage and foster the development of Four Wheel Drive Clubs

(D) To promote an active interest in conservation and the protection of the environment

(E) To co-ordinate and promote the activities of affiliated clubs, members and associated bodies, and sporting activities thereof

(F) To acquire, preserve and disseminate information pertaining to the recreation of four wheel driving

 

(2) The specific objectives of the Association are

(A) To promote goodwill and fellowship among affiliated clubs

(B) To represent the interests of affiliated clubs and their rights of access to public land road networks and to undertake publicity and other campaigns to achieve this aim

(C) To establish rapport with relevant authorities in control of public land and to improve their knowledge of four wheel drive touring

(D) To make submissions, to have meaningful discussions with, and to send deputations to improve the knowledge of four wheel drive touring, and vehicle based dispersed bush camping, within such authorities

(E) To conserve the environment and to undertake action likely to assist in this aim

(F) To represent the interests of affiliated clubs within conservation groups which the Association may form from time to time  join, by creating a greater awareness within such groups of the real interests and needs of four wheel drive owners and promoting co-operation within the conservation movement in areas of mutual interest.

(G) To act as a means for free and and rapid exchange of information between affiliated clubs

(H) To consider matters relevant to the aims of the Association to propose guidelines for affiliated clubs regarding such issues and to make Public statements on Association Policy

(I) To act as a unifying body, information repository, and clearing house for and on behalf of affiliated clubs on matters relating to the Association

(J) To promote responsible four wheel drive touring as a recreation activity

(K) To assist with community services where possible

At Four Wheel Drive Victoria our vision is:

To create and maintain a vibrant, professional and representative Association to serve the needs of all four wheel drivers in the State of Victoria for their recreational activities under the mantra of "Driving in a sustainable environment"

Code of Ethics

  • Abide by the Tread Lightly Principles for Responsible Recreation, along with Outdoor Recreation Victoria Incorporated Guidelines.
  • Enjoy your recreation and respect the right of others.
  • Support four-wheel drive touring as a responsible and legitimate family recreational activity. Consider joining an affiliated four-wheel drive club.
  • Assist other parties in difficulty, provided that this action does not adversely affect the safety of the group.
  • Obey the laws and regulations for recreational vehicles that apply on public lands.
  • Respect the cultural, heritage and environmental values of public/private land, by obeying restrictions that may apply.
  • Respect our flora and fauna. Stop and look, but never disturb.
  • Keep to formed vehicle tracks.
  • Keep the environment clean. Carry your own rubbish in and out.
  • Keep your vehicle mechanically sound and clean to reduce any environmental impact.
  • Adopt minimal impact camping and driving practices.
  • Seek permission before driving on private land. Do not disturb livestock or watering points, leave gates as found.
  • Ensure adequate resources are carried to maintain safety of vehicles and personnel.
  • Plan ahead and lodge trip details with a responsible person.

This code supports the national recreational vehicle policy and is valuable only if you observe it.
