Four Wheel Drive Victoria has been advised that Parks Victoria are conducting deer control in Bunyip State Park. To continue to protect environmentally sensitive areas, control will expand into a larger area of the park and start earlier in the evening as daylight hours shorten.
Control is being undertaken by accredited and authorised contractors, Victorian Pest Animal Control (VPAC). These activities are done in accordance with an Authority to Control Wildlife permit issued by the Game Management Authority.
Upcoming control nights are as follows, from 5pm to 7am:
Monday 3 May – Thursday 6 May 2021 (into the early hours of Friday)
Monday 24 May – Thursday 27 May 2021 (into the early hours of Friday)
VPAC will be operating in an expanded area of the park, including previous control areas. The following roads and visitor sites will be closed during the times listed above:
Black Snake Creek Road (sections)
- Bunyip River Road
- Towt Road
- Ash Landing Road
- Four Brothers Rocks
- Helmet Track Unloading Area
- Dyers Camping and Picnic Ground
- Nash Creek Camping and Picnic Ground
You may observe signage in the park indicating dates of the upcoming control program. Each sign will be flagged when control is underway. A map of the control areas is attached for your reference, including areas of the park that remain closed due to fire damage. Deer control areas (marked in yellow) will be closed to the public on control nights between 5pm to 7am, and re-open during the day (unless otherwise closed).
While our contractors use authorised suppressors, deer legal rifles will still emit noise, which may be heard in the area.
