Four Wheel Drive Victoria would like to inform our members and give a pre Christmas update on a road closure and the conditions in the foothills and

alps north of Licola / Briagolong.
Marathon Road, which is often used as access to places like Horseyard Camping Area, The pinnacles, Billy Goat Bluff Track, from Briagolong, is still closed. There is significant damage to the road south of where it meets Moroka Road. It is anticipated that repair work will begin after Christmas / New Year. There is signage at the start of the State Forest section, southern end of Marathon Road, advising of the closure.
A collapsed culvert on Moroka Road has been repaired making that road easily travelled again. All of Moroka Road has been graded.
Howitt Road is in poor condition. Grading work on that significant access route to places like Bryces Gorge, Caledonia and Butcher Country Tracks, Zeka Spur into Wonnangatta, etc. is scheduled for February.
Kelly Lane is only accessible from the northern (Howitt Road) end or via Dingo Hill Track and Scrubby Hill Track, due to issues with the Thomastown bridge over Shaw Creek. The approach was damaged in the June floods.
The road and track networks have been significantly impacted by the rainfall events and flooding during the year. The very wet winter, spring and early summer have certainly presented some issues for land and road managers.
