While not being a Seasonal Road closure, it has come to our attention that the Mount Hope Road is closed (believed due to a landslip) at a point approx. 2 km south of the Lower Tom Groggin Track or approx 10 km north of the Buckwong  Track. This is visible as a red cross on the DELWP Public Access Map. You would be aware that the Buckwong Track is one that is affected by the Extended Seasonal Closures.

Park Updates

Damaging winds may force closure of parks

Operators working in parks today are asked to take care following forecasts of damaging winds.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds today and Saturday, in elevated and coastal areas.

Current weather warnings can be seen at: www.bom.gov.au/vic/warnings

Strong winds increase the risk of trees falling. Affected parks may be closed by Parks Victoria for visitor safety.

Parks closures are dependent on local weather conditions and Parks Victoria may not be able to provide advance notification.

Some simple tips you and your visitors can follow to stay safe include not entering closed areas of parks, and not camping, sheltering or picnicking under trees.

To find out whether the park you intend visiting is affected please call 13 1963 or visit www.parks.vic.gov.au and navigate to the individual park’s page. Any closures or access restrictions are listed under the Changes to Conditions section.

Message from Tammy Schoo - Parks Vic Grampians Gariwerd National Park

Grampians

The unsealed roads within the park have dried out over the past few days but the road edges remain very wet and boggy, Drivers are urged to take care when parking along the roads. Harrops Track has been closed between Manja carpark and Glenelg River road due to a collapsed culvert and damage to a creek crossing. A number of vehicles have become  bogged  after entering closed tracks. Drivers are urged to respect the road closures. The reopening of seasonally closed tracks has been deferred until 18/11/2016 due to the wet ground conditions and damage sustained during the recent floods.

It's Melbourne Cup weekend and the traditional opening of the seasonally closed tracks.  A number of tracks are under extended closures so it is important to check their status before you travel.

Enjoy a safe weekend!

DELWP Hume Region have advised there will be an extension to some seasonally closed tracks until 30th November, 2016.  This has occurred due to sustained wet conditions across the region and will prevent track deterioration and reduce safety risk to vehicle traffic.  For further information about road closures and changes to conditions go to www.parks.vic.gov.au or check the Public Access Map at www.depi.vic.gov.au/forestry-and-land-use/visiting-parks-and-forests/visiting-state-forests/public-access-map

More than 100 forest tracks across the Hume Region will re-open in time for the Melbourne Cup weekend (27 October), but a wet spring has dampened the re-opening of others.

Recent flooding and sustained wet weather in North East Victoria means some seasonal road closures will be extended to 30 November (or until safe).

Two camping areas are also closed in Rubicon State Forest due to being partly underwater - Kendall’s Camping Area and Tin Hut Camping Area (near Rubicon, south east of Thornton).

“Roads and tracks are closed temporarily to protect them from damage during the wetter months each year as part of the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) and Parks Victoria’s seasonal road closure program,” DELWP’s Assistant Chief Fire Officer – Hume Region, Gill Metz, said.

“While most of the roads and tracks closed during the wetter months will re-open in time for the Melbourne Cup weekend, around 41 tracks will remain closed to enable them to dry out or for repairs,” Ms Metz said.

“These extended closures will be monitored and assessed weekly and if safe to do so, will be re-opened prior to the end of November.

“We want all drivers to obey any signs, such as track closures and detours that they encounter in the bush.

“These roads and tracks are closed for public safety and to protect track surfaces as well as water quality and the forest environment.

“We have informed Four Wheel Drive Victoria, Parks Victoria and Melbourne Water.

“While we have made every effort to ensure visitors have access for the opening weekend, drivers need to be prepared to come across fallen trees and other debris in some places.

“Visitors are encouraged to obtain the most up- to-date information on access into forest and park areas before they travel.”

For more information about road closures and changes of conditions go to www.parkweb.vic.gov.au or check the Public Access Map for any prolonged closures.

Alternatively, you can contact your local DELWP or Parks Victoria office.

The extended seasonal road closures do not limit access to any open spring firewood collection areas in the Hume Region. For more, visit www.delwp.vic.gov.au/firewood.

We have been informed that Madhouse Road has had to be temporarily closed due to a culvert which has collapsed. This is in the Toombullup - Tatong region. It will be repaired as soon as DELWP are able to manage it.
